Extraction means selecting and extracting the plant's active substances such as f.eks. THC or CBD using chemical or physical processes in which a concentrated extract is created.

There are two main categories:

Solvent-based methods (such as CO₂, ethanol, or butane) that use chemicals to dissolve and isolate the substances.

Solvent-free methods (such as heat and pressure, or ice-water sorting) that remove substances without chemicals, e.g. raisin or ice-water hash.

The advantage is to achieve higher concentration and better utilization of the plant's active components, as well as to control the purity and quality of the final product.
