Cannabinoid is the term for a group of chemical compounds, some of which are found naturally in the cannabis plant. Cannabinoids are a central part of the plant's chemical profile, and among the best known are CBD, THC, and THCA.
Cannabinoids in the cannabis plant
The cannabis plant contains a wide range of different cannabinoids. They are primarily formed in the plant's trichomes, which are small glandular structures found, among other places, on the flowers. Resin and terpenes are also produced here.
Some of the best-known cannabinoids are CBD, THC, and THCA, while the plant can also contain compounds such as CBG, CBN, and CBC. The amount and composition vary depending on the plant's genetics, strain, and developmental stage, among other factors.
The word cannabinoid thus does not describe one specific compound or one specific cannabis product. It is a collective term for a group of compounds that can be part of different cannabinoid profiles.
